In this week’s 5 minute update, we focused on several things:

1) The current status of the Israel / PLO peace process
2) The weak situation with the world economy

The international community continues its push to recognize a PLO state in September.  The PLO say that their state institutions have been set up and are ready to go.  In a meeting in Brussels this past week,  Quartet representative Tony Blair stated that the PA is ready for a state. Prime Minister Salam Fayyad is asking for the international community to donate $5 Billion dollars over the next 3 years to support a PLO state.  Salam Fayyad stated that the Brussels conference announcing that the PLO is ready for statehood is an international ‘birth certificate’ for a PLO state.  Meanwhile, the USA blocked a Quartet meeting (the US, EU, UN and Russia) from taking place in Berlin, Germany this past week where it was expected that the Quartet would make a statement declaring their support for a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. While the US supports in principal a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, the US decision to block the Quartet meeting seems to be a tactical decision. The US would like to be in control of the timing and support for a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. As a result, Secretary of State Hilliary Clinton announced that President Obama will be making a speech in the next few weeks outlining the US position on a Israel / PLO peace agreement. A newspaper in Israel reported that President Obama will support a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital at the UN this September.  The PLO stated that when Obama details his new policy initiative that he must make a clear statement opposing Israeli building in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and supporting a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.  In response, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been invited to speak at a joint session of congress in the USA in late May. Netanyahu stated that he would stand for the security interests of Israel and that the PLO need to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.  Netanyahu is considering saying that he is willing to establish a PLO state upon 50% of the West Bank immediately and give more  control of these areas to the PLO.  Based upon that gesture, Netanyahu then wants  to tell the international community that Israel is willing to sit down and negotiate with the PLO the details of a final status agreement. Upon hearing the rumors of Netanyahu’s position, the PLO have rejected it.  It seems that Netanyahu will be asked by the USA and the international community if he is willing to accept the terms of reference for a final status agreement to be given by President Obama in a couple weeks or reject it.  The showdown and the battle over Jerusalem (Zechariah 12:1-3) is now happening.

Greece is now paying between 13% and 18% to finance its debt.  This brings a risk that Greece will have more financial problems and could cause a crisis for the euro. The BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) are calling for a new international financial system which replaces the dependence of the US dollar as a world’s reserve currency.  The US dollar index (the value of the dollar in the world market) has dropped over 15% since June, 2010. It has fallen from a reading of 88 to about 74. It is reaching the lows experienced in the summer of 2008 of around 72-74. If the dollar breaks through the 72-74 support level, its fall could be accelerated causing a collapse of the US dollar and the US to default on its debt.

Israel announced that it would build 942 new homes in Southern Jerusalem. The United Nations condemned the building as a violation of international law. The IMF and World Bank stated that the PLO have the economic institutions in place to have a state. In anticipation of a PLO state in September, Hamas and Fatah have started reconciliation talks. At the same time, the military wing of Fatah is cooperating with Hamas to wage war with Israel. Jordan is on the verge of a civil war. The majority of people in Jordan are Palestinians but they are persecuted by the minority who run the country of Jordan.  Ahmadinejad of Iran believes that the US is behind the unrest in Jordan wanting to split Jordan and make Western Jordan part of a PLO state. Mahmood Abbas called on the Quartet (EU, UN, US and Russia) to make a clear statement outlining the parameters for a PLO state in their April 15 meeting in Germany. Israel is trying to prevent the Quartet from making a statement on the borders of a PLO state and is offering alternate suggestions to move the peace process forward. So far, the Israeli suggestions are not being accepted by the PLO. Former Israeli military and security officials proposed a “Israeli Peace Initiative” outlining the framework for a PLO state. It puts any peace agreement firmly under the mandate of the UN and international law. This is not an official document of the Israeli government. An Orthodox Rabbi in Israel shows from the Torah Codes that a PLO state is prophesied to come about in 2011. Another Rabbi in Israel calls for sacrifices to be made on the Temple Mount and an alter to be built to make it possible.

Because of its financial problems, Portugal is seeking a bailout from the EU.  The Bank of Japan is warning that the Japanese economy is deteriorating because of the effects of the recent earthquake and tsunami. The head of the IMF believes that individual nation states should have a socialist economy in the new international financial system. The world economy is currently in very weak shape and financial leaders are calling for a new international financial system.

A collapse of the US dollar and the establishment of one world currency is a tribulation event.

3) Events which indicate the possible collapse of the Euro and US Dollar in 2011

Britain, France and Germany called upon the United Nations and the European Union to present a framework peace agreement to establish a PLO state this September.  British Foreign Secretary William Hague called upon the Quartet (UN, European Union, US and Russia) to set clear peace parameters in their April meeting. The Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-Moon called for a PLO state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Israel responded that any peace proposal by the Quartet must take into consideration the viewpoints of Israel. The PLO strategy is clear. They do not want to negotiate with Israel. They want the UN to unilaterally recognize a PLO state in September. This can be done either by the United Nations Security Council or through the UN General Assembly. Mahmood Abbas called for a PLO constitution to be drafted and ready for September. Mahmood Abbas is planning on having unity talks with Hamas in April in Egypt.  Israel said that Abbas must choose between Hamas or peace but he cannot have both. Israel also stated that if a PLO state is unilaterally recognized this September at the United Nations then Israel will take unilateral action and annex the large settlement blocs. Because of the building crisis with the peace process, opposition leader Tzipi Livni offered to join a unity government with Netanyahu. Netanyahu did not publically reply to the offer.

The unrest in Syria has increased in the past week. The Syrian government resigned in an attempt to appease the protesters.  Meanwhile, Jordan is on the verge of civil war. It seems as if the unrest may be the fulfillment of Ezekiel 30. It is a sign of the end of days.  Political unrest in Middle East countries could evolve into a regional war with Israel.

Greece and Portugal is continuing to have problems. S&P downgraded again the debt of these two countries in in the past week.  The March report of leap2020 predicts the collapse of the US Treasury bond market in the 2nd half of 2011.  From these problems, the global elite would like to establish a one-world currency. These news events indicate that a collapse of the Euro and US dollar is possible in 2011.

Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu gave an interview with CNN speaking of his position on the peace process.  The international community especially wants Netanyahu to specify if he is willing to divide Jerusalem and make East Jerusalem the capital of a PLO state.  Netanyahu said that Jerusalem must remain united under Israel but that he would be willing to discuss the status of Jerusalem in peace negotiations with the PLO if they were willing to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.  Netanyahu’s lack of public commitment regarding if he is willing to make East Jerusalem the capital of a PLO state has now caused Britain, France and Germany to call upon the United Nations and the European Union to present a framework peace agreement proposal to establish a PLO state this September.  This proposal is being discussed to be presented at the Quartet meeting in April. This week, US Secretary of State Robert Gates visited Israel and the PLO. PLO President Salam Fayyad told Robert Gates that the PLO are expecting the international community to recognize a state by September. There was a bombing in Jerusalem. This is the first serious bombing since 2004. Hamas fired rockets into Israel. Israel responded by bombing targets in the Gaza. At the moment, it looks as if the only way that there can be a PLO state by September is if it is recognized through the United Nations Security Council. Otherwise, it looks like there could be a regional war in the Middle East in the spring or summer.  A regional war is a tribulation event.

Political unrest is spreading in the Middle East. Protests are happening in Syria, Yemen as well as Bahrain. While all of these are important, the BIG one to watch is Saudi Arabia. The way in which the USA has handled political developments with Egypt are of great concern to Saudi Arabia and is straining relations with the USA. If there is political unrest in Saudi Arabia, oil could go to $150 to $200 a barrel and could significantly hurt the world economy. Political unrest in Middle East countries could evolve into a regional war with Israel.

2) Economic instability with Europe

Five members of a Jewish family were killed in the West Bank settlement of Itamar.  As a response to this murder, Israel announced that they are going to build 500 new homes in West Bank settlements. The US condemned Israel’s plan for new building. The Quartet (US, UN, EU and Russia) expressed doubt that Israel and the PLO can agree upon the terms for peace in the near future. As a result, the Quartet has decided to consider putting out a statement in April on their position regarding the final status issues. Uruguay is the latest South American country to recognize a PLO state.  France said that it would recognize a PLO state if it was done with the support of the European Union. The PLO have decided that they want to pursue having the UN recognize a PLO state in September.  Seeing that the international community is indicating that they are willing to recognize a PLO state without a peace agreement with Israel, Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak indicated that Israel needs to advance the peace process or face international isolation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is planning to outline a new diplomatic plan next month. However, the PLO is expected to not accept it.  Netanyahu and Abbas are planning to meet next week with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to discuss ideas on how to advance the peace process. Finally, Israel captured a ship from Turkey headed to Gaza which contained many weapons and Israel claims that the arms on the ship came from Iran via Syria.

European banks have a 2.5 trillion dollar exposure to the debt laden nations of Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain. Ratings agency Moody’s downgraded the debt of Portugal again this week. Because of these developments, there is risk that the EU will have another sovereign debt crisis in the near future that could negatively impact the Euro. If the Euro collapses then the US dollar will collapse also.

2) Are there signs that the EU and the Euro will have a crisis? US dollar collapse?

The PLO wants to be a full member of the UN (be recognized as a state) by September. The PLO is lobbying the Quartet (EU, US, UN and Russia) to declare a statement that they will recognize a PLO state based upon 67 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. After that, the PLO would like the UN to unilaterally recognize a PLO state based upon 67 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital by September.  PLO Prime Minister Salam Fayyad says that Benjamin Netanyahu needs to state whether he accepts a PLO state based upon 1967 borders in the near future. France has indicated that they will recognize a PLO state based upon 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital in September if Israel doesn’t agree to the borders of a PLO state by that time. France is lobbying other EU countries to do the same. Feeling international pressure and the prospects of international isolation, Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he will reveal a new diplomatic initiate in May in the USA. Israel government sources indicate that this plan would include a temporary PLO state now in about 50% of the West Bank while giving more control of the West Bank over to the PLO. The Israeli government would agree to negotiate the details of a final solution within a specified period of time. The PLO is rejecting this idea. Waiting to hear the details of Netanyahu’s new ideas, the Quartet canceled their March meeting to give Netanyahu more time to formulate and reveal his new position. Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that Netanyahu can’t wait until May to reveal his plan but needs to do so within the next couple of weeks.

The world’s largest bond fund has sold all of its US Treasury notes (US government debt) due to fears of higher inflation and the collapse of the bond market. The Federal Reserve is now buying 70% of US Treasuries. QE2 is scheduled to end in June. If the Federal Reserve quits buying US Treasuries, who will buy the US debt? The US recorded its largest monthly budget deficit ever in February of over 222 billion dollars. There are growing signs that the EU will be facing another financial crisis soon. The debt of Spain has been downgraded and Spain needs money to recapitalize its banks. The cost to finance the debt of Greece and Portugal continue to grow. Because of this, there is concern that the EU will have another sovereign debt crisis in the near future. In December, we revealed that a “globalist insider” indicated that the Euro could collapse anywhere from March – July, 2011. If the Euro collapses then the US dollar will collapse also.

2) US meddling in Egypt
3) Events toward a North American Union
4) Prospects for a new world currency

The Quartet held their February 5 meeting regarding the Middle East peace conference in Munich, Germany. They released a statement saying that a Israel / PLO peace agreement should be through negotiations. The PA was disappointed because they wanted the Quartet to endorse the borders of a future PLO state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Meanwhile Israel announced new building in East Jerusalem which the US condemned indicating it being unhelpful in creating the conditions to make East Jerusalem the capital of a PLO state.  Because of the civil unrest in Egypt and fearing that it could spread across the Middle East, chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat resigned and announced new PLO elections for September. Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak visited the US to discuss the situation in Egypt and Israel’s security. George Soros is creating a financial fund to aid economic development for a future PLO state.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak resigned as President of Egypt. Mubarak expressed displeasure in the way in which the US treated him throughout the uprising. In leaving office, Mubarak stated that he believes that Egypt and other Middle East governments will have greater problems this year dealing with radical Islam. The US may have had a role to play in the unrest in Egypt. During the Bush administration, the US developed a vision for the Middle East called the “New Middle East Project” outlined in the “Clash of Civilizations” essay which appeared in the “Foreign Affairs” magazine. The goal is a “new map” of the Middle East. The long term goal is for the US to control the financial institutions and the oil reserves of the Middle East. In any future government of Egypt, there is a concern of the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood. Meanwhile, George Soros is one of 8 members of the ICG executive committee who has funded organizations opposed to traditional US allies in the Middle East.

An agreement was made this week between the USA and Canada to establish a regulatory council to unify the security and economic elements of both countries. This is the beginning of the implementation of the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership) established under the Bush administration. This is part of the effort to eventually create a North American Union consisting of the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Portugal 10-year interest rates are rising causing intervention by the European Central Bank. Because of this, there is a concern that the same financial crisis which has happened to Greece and Ireland could happen to Portugal. A top Federal Reserve spokesperson indicates that the US can’t grow itself out of its current debt problems. Meanwhile, the IMF is again calling for a global currency whose value is tied to a basket of currencies called ‘Special Drawing Rights’ (SDR’s). When the US dollar collapses there will be a need for a new world reserve currency.

A collapse of the US dollar and the establishment of one world currency is a tribulation event.

From a Biblical prophetic perspective, the reason why the God of Israel would allow these events to happen is because it will result in the end of the exile of the house of Jacob and the reunification of the 12 tribes of Israel (Ephraim and Judah).

We will to be “watchmen on the walls of Jerusalem” and we will not rest until the God of Israel makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth (Isaiah 62).
